-“A other one snack”: after we ask Jack if he wants a snack, as we are putting him into his high chair, he automatically says this. It’s like he wants us to know that whatever snack we are thinking of feeding him, he’s against.
-“Different one”: Jack is also saying this when discussing pajama options, book options, or anything.
-“Shirt on Mommy”: Jack does not like me wearing tank tops…which I’ve been wearing a lot of lately for nursing Hanna. He will not sit next to me until I put a tshirt or sweatshirt over my tank top!
-“I love you Jack” (nothing) “Jack what do you say when someone says that to you”? “Thank you!”
-“I love you Jack” “Lub you Mommy”
-When Jack is sleeping in the morning and we see him in the monitor ready to get up, we will go downstairs and whoever it is, Jack will say, “Ha Mommy!” or “Ha Daddy!” (Hi/Ha)
-One night is was bed time and I always warn him that it is soon. Jack replied, “No, party.” I said no we aren’t going to party it’s almost time for bed. He then said, “Two minutes.” Apparently we say this a lot and so now, this is how we handle the time right before bed. We let him ‘pway’ for ‘two mo minutes’.
-The other night I asked Jack to go put a chip clip away because I was trying to divert him from getting into something. He said okay, took it, and took it back to the floor where he found it, and came back to me ready to go! I guess I should never assume that a 2 year old would know to put it on the table or counter. They are so literal!
-Addiction. Baby Owange. He literally could eat 3-4 of these in a row. We stop him at 2 a day but he loves to peel them and eat them. When he finishes the first one (in a matter of minutes), he says, “Mo baby owange!!”
-Addiction #2: The Wiggles. He can’t get enough. He has to watch 2 episodes DVR’d every night before he goes downstairs to read books. His favorite? Dan Tucker. “Get out the way Old Dan Tucker, you’re too late to get your supper.” He thinks this guitar player is Uncle Mike!
-Jack loves his baby sister and likes to kiss her on the head every night before bed. So sweet. He will also say, “Lub you baby Hanna!” (He pronounces Honna)
-Eskimo kisses/Butterfly kisses: I love that Jack will still do both of these with me. We usually do it during dinner when I’m sitting right next to him. So sweet.
-Kindermusic. Jack loves going to this every Thursday from 6-6:45! He takes turns going with Mommy and Daddy. He gets so excited to go to music!! Miss Anita is his teacher again, and he loves dancing and singing songs. Jack is the only one most of the time that doesn’t like going up to the blanket to listen to her read. He sits on our lap. That makes him nervous for some reason. Jack also enjoys following the other directions and is such a good boy! That was until last week when he showed his true love for Eva in class. She is 3 and adorable and does everything right. He loves to show off for her, hold her hand when we dance in a circle. Last week, he was sitting on my lap during story time, and he started laying back on me. Then, during this quiet time he started saying, “ON the ground…I’m layin on the ground..” “Eva!! Eva!!! Lay on ground!” (obviously wanting her to join in on the fun…or flirting) She turned around with the most serious face and shook her head no because she is a rule follower. Again, everyone else is silent listening. Jack is laughing through his googly eyes at Eva. The other moms are laughing at him which only eggs him on…like his Daddy. Then he lifts up his shirt to show his belly and says, “Button! Button! Evaaaaaaa!! My button!” So embarrassed but it was so funny too.
-New baby=new messes: We have typical baby stuff laying around the house which means we have my pump hidden behind a chair and various nursing pads and supplies. When my friend Nema was here the other night, Jack decided to again be a show off and started juggling a nursing pad along with a football. She started laughing which made him get excited. He then ran to get my pumps and put them in front of his mouth and started shouting, “All aboardddddddd, all aboardddddddd!” Once again, a funny moment. He loves a good laugh. I’m a little nervous how he will embarrass me in public someday.

Dear Hanna,
You are 1 month and 1 day old. Time is flying right along! I love getting to know you more and more each day. You started to keep your eyes open more and just stare at me with your big blue eyes! I love it. Your tongue is constantly going in and out which I think means you are thinking.
I have to pick up where I left off! This weekend, you rode with Mommy back to Waterloo to help Grandma Joyce find a new condo! We stayed over night Monday-Wednesday and it was so fun. You were such a good girl driving around in the car…sleeping the whole time until we got to our last of 7 houses. Grandma Joyce was also at our house the Thursday-Monday before to spend some time with us! We had a lot of fun. Great Aunt Jeanne and her babysat you and Jack Saturday night so Mommy and Daddy could celebrate Daddy’s birthday by going to dinner at the Chop House and to a Lady Antebellum concert. We also spend our first night away from you. But you came to see us Sunday morning so your big brother could swim.
You had a tough first couple of weeks…lots of tummy pain, crying, and pretty much just annoyed with the world. After 10 days of probiotic, Zantac, a trip to the chiropractor, and a weekend with Grandma and Jeanne, you seem so much better! We are so happy.
Your routine is getting better. At night, we try to keep you up after 8 so that around 9:30 we can give you a bath. You seem to like it so much more now! I think it calms you down. After your bath, I feed you and we lay you down around 10:30 or 11. Sometimes we lay you down at 8:30 or so during your evening nap, and we jump into bed hopeful for a few hours, only to get about 10-20 minutes! So after your bath, we lay you down and you sleep until between 2:30 and 3:30 when I feed you (sometimes for 30 minutes to 1 hour) You then have started a habit of not wanting to go back down but on good nights, you will go back down for two more hours. Around 6:30 I feed you again and then you typically like to sleep in the living room until about 8 or 8:30.
We try to feed you one bottle a day to get you used to it but you don’t like it very much. You get very angry with it. We’ve changed so many things up. First the nipple was too slow, then we bumped it up and it was too fast. We changed your angle, then we changed your bottle, only to return to the original bottle level 1 nipple. We figured out the probiotic was clogging it a bit which made you mad!!!! You are doing a little better now that you aren’t taking that yucky stuff. When you do eat from a bottle, you eat about 3-4 ounces. It takes about 30-45 minutes to feed you as you like to take your time (like Mommy). You love to eat and have been eating every 2-2.5 hours during the day and sometimes every hour in the evening!!
During the day you like to watch Kathie Lee and Hoda on the Today show with Mommy. You also like watching DVR’d Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shows, Jersey Shore, and the Bachelor. You also like to watch HGTV a lot! All of these are the background noise while you sleep. You like to sleep in your bouncy or on the ottoman in front of me. We change your diapers a lot because you do not like to wait! Sometimes we change it 3 times in an hour! You’ve started to smile on cue (sometimes) and it melts my heart! I just hold you in front of my face and talk to you in a high voice and you will smile real big! My favorite cry you have is still the one that sounds fake. You will stare at me as I’m trying to make you smile and just jolt your head back and do this moan/cry from the front of your mouth like your throat is closed. Your eyes are closed when you do this like you are so frustrated with me not understanding your wants. Daddy comes home for lunch most days and he loves to see you. He’s so happy to have a baby girl and gets a little teary eyed when he stares at you. In the afternoon you usually take a longer nap in your bouncy and sometimes I do too. In the afternoon we watch Nate Berkus show, the Doctors, and Ellen. A lot of times, I don’t get to watch many of these shows because we are walking around (which you require a lot of) or I’m folding laundry and making piles around you. After work, Daddy brings your big brother home and he runs in the door and says, “Where’s baby sister?” He loves to run up to you, look at you, and laugh. He loves you so much!! Lately, he has started to tell me to put you in your bouncy so I can play with him. Usually I’m feeding you though, so I have to tell him that I will when you are full. After supper we play with Jack and just enjoy life as a family of four. Sometimes you sit in your bouncy on the counter while we eat dinner. After Jack is in bed, the three of us spend time together which is nice.
I love: your big blue eyes staring at me. Your big smile that you share once in awhile if I really try hard for it, the way you snore, the way you allow your neck to be twisted and dropped in any direction because you are so relaxed, the way you calm down when I hold you close to my chest, your kissy lips and nose, your fake cry, how you close your eyes when you are annoyed or have a fake cry, how much your big brother loves you.
We love you so much baby girl!!!!! We can’t wait to see you grow and to watch you and your big brother play together. You will have so much fun together and laugh at each other all of the time.
