September 2012

September was a busy yet fun month!  Hanna turned 9 months old, and started crawling.  Jack became fully potty trained (except nap and nighttime), and he got his new bike that he earned for potty training!

Over Labor Day weekend, we had a great time when Grandma Joyce came to visit!  We went to the pool for the last time this summer!

Big boy!!

This is what happens when Mommy and Grandma Joyce teach Jack how to play football while Daddy naps...

Delivering mail with his tricycle!  A daily job!  Such a cutie.

Must wear his "football" helmet ALL the time!

Water break!

Last weekend, we went to Thomas the Train!  What a fun trip!

Aunt Laura and Baby Landon surprised us in Grandma Joyce's car!!  Jack was a happy boy!

Cousin love

Big boy earned a new bike for being potty trained!  He only rode it down to the sidewalk before deciding he didn't like it too much.
He was so proud!!

Special time with two of Jack's favorites...

Love these kids!

Trying on old costumes for fun!

A fun fall walk at the state park near our house!  It was so beautiful!  Maybe a new Sunday tradition!

-You love to play in the basement before bed.  Lately, it has to be football with Daddy.  You will say, “Hut hut hike!”  and run past Daddy, he’ll throw you the football as your sprinting, and you will land in the bean bag.  You love this so much!  You’ve even started saying, “Blue 42, Blue 42…”  And I love watching you play with your daddy.  It is so precious.

-Tonight you came to kiss me goodnight since you lately have only wanted Daddy to put you nigh night.  You came up to kiss me, and walked away backwards singing, “Loo loo, skip to my loo!”  in the sweetest voice.  This is a typical sweet moment with you where you are singing, saying something, or just being funny. Unfortunately you bonked your head on the corner wall.  All of a sudden you were crying and wanted Mommy to put you to bed.  Then again, Daddy.  At least I get to snuggle you and sing to you to make you stop crying.  For some reason, “Baby Beluga” still makes you calm down and stop crying.  Hanna too.  I’ve even heard you singing it to her.  You are such a sweetie.

-You went to your first football game with Daddy on Friday.  You went to and Indianola Indians game.  They were getting beaten by a lot.  Daddy said that you were cheering for the cheerleaders…not the players!  When you came home, all you could talk about was the marching guys and orange guys (Sioux City).  I love that everything we do with you is a big deal.  You are so much fun!

-Books:  We usually read 2-3 books with you before bed.  I’ve been reading Ted and Fred Go Camping which is a Dr. Seuss book you love.  Daddy has been reading you The Night Before Christmas: a Search and Find.  Daddy just reads the pages through quickly, and you will pick out one thing you really want to see.  “Where’s the gingerbread man?”

-Candyland.  We play this with you a few times a week.  You love to play and get really excited when you draw the gum drop card!  We have to move through it pretty quickly because you lose interest or try to do about two other things while you’re playing the game.

-One day when Grandma was here, he asked her if she wanted to play football or baseball.  She said, “I don’t  know…I don’t have the right shoes.”  He said, (in a very bossy way), “One of the two, one of the two!” (over and over until she said okay.”  Then he reminds her, “You don’t be bossy and you listen k? Or I be sad.  Don’t be bossy k?”

-One day he wouldn’t go down for nap.  So I went downstairs only to find him in his closet with all his stuffed animals and both blankies smiling huge with the door closed and light on.  Busted!

-I asked Jack what gives him muscles.  He replied in a grunty voice while flexing, “Mac n cheeeeeeeeeeese!!”  (I was looking for green beans and milk, but this will do.)

-‘My leg hurts’ ‘My finger hurts’ ‘My nose hurts’.  Sometimes when he’s craving attention or overly tired, one of these phrases pops in.  If you continue to focus on it, he forgets which part actually is the one he said hurt, and mixes them up.

-Ponytails.  He wants one.  I’ve only given him once, and told him that girls mostly wear them.  What a weirdo!

-Jack and Claire at daycare:  They were born 5 days apart, and have been buds at daycare.  One day, Vickie told me that the two of them were found playing on the top of the swingset with their pants down.  When she asked them what they were doing, Jack turned to her and said, “We pwayin’ hotel!”

-To me: “What’s that on your head?”  “A headband.”  “I wear one when I ….when I get married!”

-While playin in the tubby downstairs, he named his Spiderman toy ‘Cuckoo’ and Little Buzz ‘January’.  He told me that January 6 was his birthday, that he would be 5, and then asked what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I told him I wanted to drive a boat (only for lack of time to think).  He said I had to pick football, hockey, or baseball player.

-One morning, Jack asked Daddy for a Boppy.  Jack said he needed it for his babies.  Justin handed him a pillow, and Jack proceeded to unzip his pajamas to try to nurse them.  Oh geesh…

Jack: I love that you get excited to go absolutely anywhere, as long as it’s an outing!  You love the little things!  Everything is a big deal…even a trip to the mailbox with your tricycle!  You love being helpful and have started to really use your imagination.  Last night you showed me your ‘Talent Show’ and use a baby wipe as your magic tool.  I love that in order to get us to take you somewhere or do something fun, you assure us, “I’m happy!” while grinning with a cheesy smile.  You are my baby boy and always will be buddy.

Love you so!!

Dear Hanna,

You are 9 months old now!  Big girl!!  Baby girl, you continue to change everyday.  You are stronger, faster, feistier, and more lovable!  Just when I think that I couldn’t love you any more, I do!
You can crawl, have started pulling yourself up, say ‘Dada’, apparently you have waved at daycare, you twist your wrists around and around, you dance, and you smile all the time!  You still don’t have any teeth, but you have got to be getting some soon.  They are hurting you!!
You just are getting over your first cold.  You were so congested and waking up in the night.  Which you never do.  You had a little fluid in your ear too.  So you’ve been on Amoxicillin, Sudafed, and now Ibuprofen.  I hate putting you on medicine, but you are immediately feeling better.  No more Sudafed now!
You sleep from about 6:20-5:50 everyday.  Even on the weekends!  But on those early weekend days, we bring you into our bed and I feed you.  You then spend the rest of the time until Jack wakes up trying to crawl off the bed.  Your newest trick is sitting up and then falling back onto the pillows.   The latest you can stay up at night is 7.   You take two naps a day, one at 9, and one at 1.
You love: when Mommy sings to you and when Daddy is anywhere in the area and you can hear him.  You immediately start saying, “Dada”.  It is so precious.  You love when your brother is playing with you on the floor.   You two will just giggle and giggle with each other.  He will kiss you when you cry.  He will say, “It’s okay Hanna, it’s okay!”  He will make sure you are not playing with chokable toys, and has learned to replace a toy with one of your own if you have found one of his.  You love your goofy brother!  You love peek-a-boo, being free to move all around, being held (but only if you are facing out and we are moving), eating, not being put in your carseat, eating ice cubes in the net, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  You hear the song and can’t focus eating in the morning and have to look at the tv immediately!  You love being tickled!!  Daddy is the best tickler and you laugh so hard!
You are just the best little baby ever.  I love that you are starting to dance and laugh at appropriate times!  I love our ‘girl times’ and look forward to always having my special Hanna time.
I hope you know how very loved you are.  I miss you when I’m not with you, and I think about your sweet face all day long when I’m at work.  You make me so happy sweetie baby girl.

Love,
Mommy
