-First time going to Howell's Pumpkin Patch for hayrides, a corn maze and more!
-First time sleeping withOUT a paci!
-First time going potty on the potty chair!
-First time trick-or-treating!
-First time carving a pumpkin (which he wasn't too enthused with and thought was gross...)
We played a lot outside. He still likes to play on the swingset and help Daddy water the new trees. Jack's newest obsession is "Help Daddy." He always tries and wants to help Daddy and says, "Help Daddy" as he follows him around. When Daddy was putting together the baby's crib, he insisted on "Help Daddy", but really it involved banging the screwdriver on the metal box spring and wall or begging to play with screws and nails. Or when Daddy's rearranging the baby's room, he wants to help Daddy by playing ping pong with Mommy right in the middle of the room....(maybe this was my doing!)
Eating has been more of a challenge lately. He used to always eat whatever we put in front of him which made it so easy! Now he will not eat vegetables. We're still working on this, but did have a 45 minute stand off with him last week where we were holding his grilled cheese sandwich ransom until he ate ONE bite of corn. ONE! He wouldn't do it and we knew he was trying to win so we stayed strong......until we decided to give him one strip of his sandwich to show him what he was missing...it worked! He's a tough one sometimes, but we learned our lesson: must give him a little of the good stuff before veggies. But he still loves spaghetti, strawberries, crackers, yogurt, popsicles, and "cake cakes" (aka: anything sweet.) This started when Justin made french toast one morning and he called them "Daddy cakes." And now, french toast, pancakes, muffins, cake, cookies, etc. are cake cakes. Jack also started "Match." We were confused by this because when we'd sit down to eat, he'd yell, "Match, Match!" while holding his glass or plate. We finally realized he wanted to 'cheers' because they match! He is obsessed with this. He also loves pizza. We had only given it to him once, and he started saying it all the time. One night we ordered pizza to be delivered after he went to bed and Justin accidentally said 'pizza' while Jack was in the tub. This was not good. It was like he knew we had fun plans and he was not included. He cried and cried and begged for pizza. One time I was throwing away a pizza box and he knew what it was and started crying again. I swear we barely eat it but it must have made a lasting impression!
Jack still says, "Daaaaaaa-dddeeeeeee" or "MOommmmmmmmmmeeeeeeee" in his twangy sarcastic voice when he thinks we are being silly!
Paci: this is no longer an issue! He only had it during nap time and bed time in his crib. But we started to see him becoming more and more attached to it, so we knew it was time. We decided to cut the tips one Sunday, and just happened to be going to Clarinda to see Grandpa Bob and Grandma Carol. While there, we went to visit some farm animals, and there were some chickens (which Jack loves to imitate), and a cow named Jack. See chicken photo below! Well the chickens were not very nice, so I decided to tell him that the chickens ate his paci tips. I felt awful, but I'm so glad that it's over. It took about a week for a full recovery! It's so funny how he would tell others about the story of the chickens....the only words we would understand were chickens and paci! He would tell it very matter-of-factly too. Such a bad Mommy for lying...but I know it's normal. We also replaced his paci with a new pillow that he loves! Right away he started snuggling with it on the hard tile to test it out.
Jack just recently started to call people by different names. He calls Justin 'Justin' or 'Babe' at times because he hears me say it. Actually one day in the car, I gasped because of a semi and Jack said, "Babe.....jeese (geez)". When Bob at daycare asked Jack if he saw his Grandpa Bob that weekend, Jack told him, "Yes....and Vickie!" He thinks that with any Bob comes a Vickie. This weekend he started to call Justin, Bobby. "Thank you Bobby....All done Bobby...." We're not sure why he's doing this. Pretty sure he is faking it to be funny or maybe rubbing it in that Justin isn't a stay-at-home Dad and he wants him to feel guilty and stay home. Either way it's pretty funny. He also calls Grandpa Bob, Bobby. He calls Grandma Joyce, Nama. Grandpa Mick is Papa, and Grandma Mary is Nama/Gama too.
When we play the, "Jack, who loves you?" game, he has finally included me. Now he says, "Daddy!" "And???" "Mommy!" "And???" "Woa!" "And???" "Mike, Unca Mike." "Dares two Mikes." (There's two Mikes)
Sleep: Jack still sleeps 11-12 hours a night...which is awesome! He goes to bed at 7:30 and reads a Thomas book and "Ee-yi, Ee-yi, Oh" (Old MacDonald book). He then says, "Nigh Nigh Momas (Thomas)." He naps about 1-3 ish too.
K, Oh, Thanks: These three words are used all the time lately. If we tell him we'll see him in the morning or give him a direction, he'll say, "K Mommy." Or if we tell him not to do something or to be careful he'll say, "Oh." He always says thanks...(well most of the time. "Hank ewe" has turned to "Thanks".
"Like this_____". Jack loves to play ping pong downstairs, outside, or in the tub..(with just the ball). When he is playing with a paddle, he will get ready to smack it and say, "Like dis Mama" or "Like dis Nama" depending on who he wants to show! He also does this with a tennis racket and ball, or running downstairs back and forth. "Set, Go!" and "Like dis Mama!"
Shoes: Jack loves shoes lately. He likes to take a bath, put on pj's, and then asks for us to put on his water shoes. "Wato shooce!" Or, "Cwocks!" (Crocs)
Batman and Superman: Jack has never seen either of these two men but loves them. He has one Batman shirt and pj set, and one Superman shirt. He now can sing the Batman song too and gets very excited when these are chosen for his shirt that day!! He loves to look down and point at it!
Coat: He likes to wear coats and always leads us to it on the hook. "Coat, hood, zip it!"
Kitties: He LOVES kitties, and doggies and really any animal. He will giggle, smile, tilt his head, beg to go kiss it, chase it any chance he has!
Today Jack didn't want to stay playing outside and started whining and pointing to the car and saying, "Home, Home!" Justin kept telling him that we were home, but figured out that he really wanted to go for a ride. So we jumped in the car and drove around for awhile just looking at houses and trees and thucks (trucks) and "BEEEG thucks!" We drove out in the country a little bit and there were haystacks and he kept saying/whining "Ee-i, Ee-i" and "Bobby" (assuming Grandpa Bob since we saw farm animals with him). I think he wanted us to take him to someone else's house...he's so used to traveling every weekend to go see one of his grandparents or aunts/uncles that this was a weird weekend for him! Poor kid didn't realize he was home since we've been gone so much.
Howell's Pumpkin Farm: hay ride, little tractors, corn seed play bin, wiggle cars, pumpkin picking, corn maze, sheep feeding and more!

Clarinda at Grandpa Bobby and Grandma Carol's! He loved chasing Hobbs and going to a farm to see a cow named Jack and chickens (even though they ate his paci)

"Daddy's shooce." Jack loves getting our shoes ready for us when it's time to go. He usually picks the wrong ones but it's still so sweet. He loves saying, "Mommy coat" and "Daddy shooce."

Papa Mick showing Jack his I-Pad....Jack now thinks our laptops are touch screen like Papa's I-Pad! Papa came down one night to go to Kindermusic with us! He thought it was some sort of a concert...but soon learned it was more like a toddler play time with scarves, shakers, and parachute! Jack loved that Papa was there and showed off for him.

Grandma Joyce came for a weekend and got to help us carve pumpkins and went to a Halloween festival in town too!

Jack had goo on his fingers (the size of a crumb) and he was disgusted.

Lindsey and Brooks came too!

Best shot of the two of them and the ghost we could get.
Caught him at a good moment here!
Jack told Daddy he had to go potty one day which he has done before and we just let him fake the process. This time he actually went! We know it's not time yet but we were happy he succeeded once!

First trick or treat! Jack liked this! The first house we went to, they opened the door and he went right inside! We had to go get him and tell him to say "Moo", take one piece of candy, and say, "Thank you." By the third house he could pick one piece, and say 'Moo' or 'Thank you'...just not both. We made it almost to every house on our street...maybe 12 or so! It was really fun. It became a routine. He'd ride in the stroller, we'd park at the end of the sidewalk, he'd put his sucker down, walk up alone, take one piece, then say, "Thanks."
